Dear family and friends,
This week went really well. We had a
lot of great success and the Lord is really blessing us. We have seen a lot of
miracles this week. One of them is about Oo Meh's family. Ever since Oo Meh has
been baptized, she has been a really great missionary! She helps us a lot when
we teach her dad about the gospel. She translates and shares why the gospel is
important to her to her father which is a really special thing to see. She
really wants her dad to be baptized. She said to "teach my daddy hard, just like
you did me!" It was pretty funny but we are really happy to see the change that
she has gone through. We are still teaching him but he is not quite ready to
accept a baptismal date. Our investigators that we found last week are doing well. It is hard to teach them because they don't understand a lot of English. We are going to try to teach them English and also simple gospel terms first, and then later we will teach more about the restoration and plan of salvation.
We found 4 more new investigators this last week! Their names are Doe Reh, Heh Reh, Mew Meh, and Lee Reh. They are part of a big family that just moved here from Washington. Some of them came to church so that was great! They also don't speak a lot of English so teaching will be pretty slow moving with them. Another new investigator that we found is Snow. She is one of our investigators (Michael) wife. She speaks really good English so she really helps us in translating during the lessons. They both came to church and she was really happy and surprised when she saw other Burmese people there! I think they will continue to come.
Another great miracle this week is that we have had some really great lessons this week despite the language barrier. It seems like every time we are preparing for a lesson, that at first we have no clue on how we could demonstrate what we are trying to teach. Without fail, something always comes into our mind. We have had some fun lessons. We were teaching obedience to Eh Taw's family. We brought a blender with various food items from tuna, mustard and strawberries. We talked with them about what ingredients we could use to make a good smoothie. After discussing that for a bit, we related that recipe to the commandments of God. When we are disobedient we put in things that would not make a smoothie. We did just that. Our smoothie had Tuna, Mustard, Pepper, Tomatoes, and old Strawberries in it. It was pretty nasty but illustrated why it is important to be obedient. I really love teaching these people and love serving my mission.
Thanks for the update on all of the success back home. I hope y'all are enjoying your time to the best of your ability (I know that I am!). Happy birthday Bri and congrats on the Seminary graduation. I bet Jaxsen's party was really fun, that is a lot of kids! Also its great to see that all of the kids are enjoying soccer and track. Something that I have learned to love on my mission is service. I miss being able to do the yard work and work in the garden with y'all.
Have a great week!
Love Elder Mortensen
